Unfortunately, I just didn’t think we clicked the way I’d want us to, but I think you’re really great and hope to run into you again soon.” <— AMAZING. Just copied & pasted this to my phone — thank you!!

Also, I would love to see an article on “e-lationships.” Personally, I think it’s a really bad idea (lol) because so often people do not end up being like we envision them. I’ve met women before who didn’t look like their picture, or otherwise weren’t what I expected, because I met them so quickly after contacting them, that I didn’t really care one way or the other. But when you spend a lot of time “getting to know someone online” you become more and more invested to them, and your expectations become higher and higher. This to me seems a recipe for disaster– And not only that, the rejection may even be harder to take because of the time investment.

YES. This absolutely the best policy and I don’t get why people are so afraid to just be politely honest. When I was freshly single, I had one of those dates that I was really excited about but 1/2 way through, couldn’t wait to be done with it. He asked me out again right after the date and I said, verbatim, what you’ve recommended here. He wrote back “thank you for being honest. i really appreciate it. all the best to you!” Now I don’t have to worry about hard feelings. I wish others would extend the same courtesy to me after a 1st date.
Erin
